How many end users actually use the automated proof test capabilities of modern safety systems? And what do they use to document proof tests - electronic systems or paper?
We have set Asco RCS solenoid valves for partial stroke tests (monthly tests in a couple of cases to meet the IL requirement). Since the Instrument signal tags (limit switches, instrument air signal pressure in the RCS box etc) are sent to a data historian, there is an electronic record of the test.
Note: Our facility is certainly not in the forefront of using automated proof tests and electronic record keeping. With just a handful of RCS valves, we have started to take the first steps towards that future.
