I don't always waste time surfing the InterWebs on Friday afternoons, but when I do, I often end up at recipe sites. And it's true, what the tweet that sent me here said. This is the best dumb recipe evah! How to make ice cubes! The comments are good too.

I am pleased and proud to announce that SustainablePlant.com, which we began as strictly an online venue, has decided to also become a print publication.

SP will be published in November, and mailed at the end of October. Here's what my colleague Paul Studebaker (and my predecessor as editor in chief of Control, too) says about what he and his team are doing:

Joe Weiss and I, among others, have been trying for years now to explain the difference between Enterprise IT and Industrial Control System (ICS) IT.

This morning I received a press release from Deutsche Telekom which said in part, "Data protection is a top priority at Telekom."

There it is, in one sentence. The main task and guiding principle of Enterprise IT is to protect the data in the enterprise servers.

Some--okay a lot--of folks might say I spend too much time lurking around on Twitter. (www.twitter.com). They're possibly correct. But it's not all time wasted. One of the things that keeps me coming back there with alarming regularity is that the more the number of people I follow increases, the more interesting stories I find that I otherwise would have missed.  I'll spare you the political rants, celebrity gossip, sports scandals and cute cat pictures. Consider them homework.

Like most of us, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when momentous events in my lifetime have occurred. I remember the Kennedy assasinations, Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder, the first moon landing, the Challenger and Columbia disasters and a host more in my 60 years. And I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing on September 11, 2001. 

David Farr, CEO of Emerson Electric, parent company of Emerson Process Management, gave an interview to Bloomberg News today. Makes for a good read on what the plans of one of the process automation big dogs are for the future. One clue: Selling off consumer goods pieces of company and emphasizing industrial and automation.

When I post a press release, it is so I can point out something that I found interesting. In this release, I found one sentence that just jumped out for me.

The path to real security in the process industries is made up of many small victories, each a step toward the end goal of making it extremely difficult for a cyber penetrant or a cyber accident (whether internal or external) to have a significant effect on an operating process plant, power plant, or other industrial control system.
